Memo To:        Sister Joann Elder, President of the WUBDA Women’s Auxiliary

From:               Annette Hayes, Chairperson

Re:                   W. U. B. D. A.  Women’s Auxiliary Deaconess and Deacon’s Wives

To President Elder and the Western Union Women’s Auxiliary,

I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  It is with great anticipation that I write this letter for I am excited about being appointed by our president, Sister Joann B. Elder as the chairperson for the W. U. B. D. A. Women Auxiliary Deaconess and Deacons’ Wives.  I am inspired by this appointment as I know that there are so many other women who have been serving as deaconess and I will be given the opportunity to learn and glean knowledge from those seasoned saints as well as the younger women as they share their gifts and wisdom with me.

God has laid upon my heart the theme “My Sister’s Keeper” using the scriptural text of Titus 2:3-5 which provides us with sound doctrine on our Christian duties, instilling in us that the aged women may teach the young women. Whatever our age may be, as deacon’s wives, I charge you to become your Sister’s Keeper; To make more friends, Become sisters, and Ensure that no sister is left behind. In order for us to meet this charge, we must know who our sisters are.

I am asking you, President Elder to appoint or ask for volunteers from each sub district to work with me to plan our first annual “Meet and Greet Tea” in 2010; where we will set aside time to learn, share, fellowship, break bread together and get to know our sisters. It is my hope that our way of working together will inspire the women to form sisterhoods that work together to lend sisterly support to each other and to communities of women.

I am also giving you envelopes addressed to the Pastor of each church registered in W. U. B. D. A.  In that envelope is an introductory letter to the Pastor; there is also an information form that I would like for each deaconess or deacon’s wife to complete and return to me by the deadline date.  Please distribute this information to representatives from the church in your meeting today and those not in attendance will receive their information by US mail.

I am also asking that someone would volunteer from the Cincinnati District or Mechanicsburg district to be our Queen Contestant for the O. B. G. C.  Annual Deaconess Day in May 2010.  We would like to get a head start on this endeavor, so that we can well represent Western Union.

Again, I thank you for allowing me to be of service and I look forward to working and meeting my fellow sisters in Christ.

Love in Christ,

Dear Pastor,

My name is Annette Hayes and I am a member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton Ohio under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Junior F. Greenlee.  I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  I am also the wife of Deacon Earnest Hayes, and I thank God for giving me a husband who loves the Lord.

I am writing you this letter as the newly appointed Chairperson for the Western Union Baptist District Association Women’s Auxiliary Deaconess and Deacon’s Wives.  As I have always been taught, it is customary and proper protocol to seek the permission of the Pastor when asking for their church members to participate.

God has laid upon my heart the theme, “My Sister’s Keeper” using the scriptural text of Titus 2:3-5 which provides us with sound doctrine on our Christian duties, instilling in us that the aged women may teach the young women. Whatever our age may be, as deacon’s wives, it should be our charge to become our Sister’s Keeper; To make more friends, Become sisters, and Ensure that no sister is left behind. In order for us to meet this charge, we must know who our sisters are.

Therefore, I have enclosed an information sheet, for the deaconess or deacon’s wife to complete and return to me if it meets with your approval.  Once I have received the information, it is my hope that we will together present our first annual “Meet and Greet Tea” in 2010; where we will set aside time to learn, share, fellowship, break bread together and get to know each other.  It is my desire that our way of working together will inspire the women to work together in the Cincinnati, Mechanicsburg, and Springfield District to lend support to each other and to communities of women.  It brings great joy to me when I travel throughout the various conventions that I am able to fellowship with an learn from other Christian women; it is an encouragement that helps strengthen my faith.

I thank you for your time and if you have any questions about this letter or about me, please do not hesitate to call my Pastor at (937) 263-6104 or call me at (937) 837-8009.

God Bless You and Keep you in his care.
